Meet Fawn Waterman, our new Children's Director!
Hi my name is Fawn Waterman, the new Children’s Minister here at Union Church. I am a new resident of Avon Park and am the proud parent of a 27-year-old daughter named Dominique. I have worked with children for over 25 years as both a teacher and director and look forward to working with your child(ren).
Children are a gift from God, and with these gifts and blessings come responsibilities. Parents, families, and schools have their own set of responsibilities to children as does the Church. Here at Union, our Children’s Ministry will provide an environment in which children are safe, are taught at an age appropriate level, and are encouraged to develop a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We want our children to know and understand that God loves them with an unconditional love and that each and every one of them matters to our God…as our Church logo says, “You Matter To God.” We do this with prayer and praise, a short lesson, group projects, and group activities. We will also offer trips and outings, which will encourage cooperation and team building experiences. This program cannot be a success without your help.
Change is hard but necessary. Jesus said in Isaiah 43:18-19 “Do not remember the former things. For I will do a new thing.” Please be encouraged with the new changes in our program and our children.
I look forward to meeting and greeting each one of you to discuss any problems, concerns and suggestions you may have. “Let’s be the change we would like to see in the world.”

Getting to know me…
I was born and raised in NYC to a big family of 11 children…me being the next to youngest girl. I was raised in church, attended Bible school, and attended summer camps. I went to both High School and college in New York, majoring in pre-law. I thought I wanted to be a lawyer but God had other plans. After college I had my beautiful 27-year-old daughter, Dominique, with whom I love to the moon and back. I knew law school and a new baby were no match, so I embarked on a new career path…TEACHING. I taught children of all ages for 12 years, and then I later became a Director of Education for 13 years.
At a certain point in my life I felt I could no longer handle life's situations on my own so 5 years ago I surrendered my life to Christ. I knew I was not living in my purpose and I then left New York for Florida. God's calling lead me to Union Church where I am now the Children's Minister…what a blessing!!
I am sort of a thrill-seeker. I can't swim in the ocean but I went deep sea diving…I hate heights but I went bungee jumping…and I have ridden some of the highest free fall roller coasters. I love living life to the fullest, enjoying good food, the company of my family and friends, shopping, and all things PINK!
“Why fit in when you can stand out,” is the way I live my life! If it’s not my big hair, it’s my colorful clothes, or my Kool-Aid smile that everyone remembers.
Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

We learn in Mathew chapter 19 of Jesus telling the disciples to “let the children come to him.” That piece of scripture sets the purpose of any church’s children’s ministry and ours is no exception. The Backyard keeps on bloomin’ and offers a variety of programs for a variety of ages. Hopefully, you’ll find one that is a perfect fit for you and your family.
Children’s Ministry Weekly Schedule
- Wednesday: Children's Ministry takes place from
5:30 PM – 7:00PM K-5 and childcare is provided for preschoolers.
- Sunday: Childcare is provided starting at 9:00 AM and “Children’s Church” begins during our 10:45 AM worship service. Children are encouraged to be in worship and are dismissed just before the sermon.
